Almost Home Animal Rescue

Almost Home Animal Rescue League was founded in 1999 by Gail Montgomery Schwartz and Lauren Montgomery Anchill. The mother and daughter team became disheartened while volunteering at various animal shelters. Being of the ‘never kill’ philosophy, they were disturbed by the endless euthanasia practiced simply because animals were born homeless and society felt there was no place for them. Gail and Lauren wanted a huge difference in our animals’ lives. Almost Home became the first Never Kill 501 (c)(3) animal rescue organization. Almost Home is the one and only pure never kill organization. It’s truly a place for dogs and cats to not only feel safe but to be safe. We are so proud of our work and all the people who are instrumental in saving lives with us. Here’s to being the model never kill animal rescue. Love to all. Peace and good life to all.

Forgotten Harvest

In 1990, we set down roots in the greater metro Detroit area and began rescuing food surpluses from grocery stores, markets, restaurants, caterers, and more. We took donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, and delivered it free-of-charge to emergency food providers in the metro Detroit area. Our work has since expanded to include Forgotten Harvest Farms, where we grow our own fresh food for those in need. All the food we rescue and produce is delivered to metro Detroit families who are food-insecure and struggle to cover the cost of basic life necessities. Our food helps bridge the income gap for tens of thousands of people, allowing them to secure some basic life necessities for themselves and their family.

Judson Center

Since opening our doors as the Detroit Baptist Children’s Home in 1924, we have grown to provide services to over 12,000 children, adults, and families each year. Since then, the agency has evolved into a comprehensive, multi-faceted, community based human service center — one that has been nationally recognized for fostering independence through innovative programs, and for empowering children of all ages and their families to live the best lives possible. We have been changing fates and restoring childhoods for children who have been abused and neglected, and others who are challenged by developmental disabilities, severe emotional impairments and autism spectrum disorder. Judson Center has remained responsive to these and other community needs by providing a range of innovative and quality services. We are a resource for healing and a leader in human services that delivers brighter futures for those we are privileged to serve.
